In Ladakh’s famed Leh district, under the shadow of the towering Thiksey monastery, lies the tiny village of Thiksey. It is here that TUTC lays down it’s uber luxury travelling camp. At Chamba Camp, Thiksey travellers get a chance to sample experiences like never before. Like watching a traditional Ladakhi dance performance, feeling spiritual upliftment at an early morning prayer ceremony with the monks of Thiksey Gompa, and watching the sun set over the old city of Leh from the Shanti Stupa. This otherworldly landscape truly is unlike anywhere else on earth.

Weather Information

Ladakh has a cold desert climate with long, harsh winters from October to early March, with minimum temperatures well below freezing for most of the winter. The weather in the remaining months is generally fine and warm during the day….

July – August is predictably the best months as the Monsoons start entering into the trans-Himalayas by late August.
The maximum average temperature recorded in the summer season is 25.3 °C (77.5 °F) with chances of light occasional rains
Day time temperature in summer would average 20°C (68°F) and night time temperature plummet to 7.4°C (45.3°F)
Since the weather in Ladakh is very temperamental. All activities, excursions and extensions will be subject to weather conditions. The Tour Manager at the camp will monitor and advise on the same.

Camp Facilities

TUTC’s Chamba Camp, Thiksey recreates a vision of safari inspired canvas luxury interspersed with colonial charms of the ‘hunting leaves’ that officers of the erstwhile British Raj enjoyed. The camps are warm, with luxurious interiors and colonial era inspired furniture.

Through night and day, our diligent camp staff is at hand to attend to every need you may have – from cooking up a delicious snack, to regaling you with tales of the land.

ACCOMMODATION

While all tents are not the same shape, each tent is spacious, comprising of a bedroom, bathroom and verandah area. The premium Presidential Suite Tents in the Thiksey Camp, (Leh region) in Ladakh have an extra wing which can accommodate up to 2 extra beds, a bed and seating area or a complete lounge setting. All tents have large windows to allow our guest to enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Air-conditioning and heating are also provided depending on the location and requirement.
