    Day 1: Following your arrival at Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa soak in the serenity and picturesque surrounding as you relax and unwind.

    Today, following your arrival in Lucknow, you will transfer on your own arrangements to Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa located on the periphery of Dudhwa National Park. The drive is approximately four hours thirty minutes and one gets an introduction to the diversity of the Terai region, as you traverse through the countryside and notice endless fields of sugarcane, rice and wheat plantations.

    On arrival at Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa soak in the serenity of the surroundings as you are escorted to your luxurious room. After the check-in formalities, relax and unwind from your journey. Later, set out for a gentle walk around the lodge, to acquaint yourself with the fauna and flora of these rural surroundings. In the evening, your resident naturalist will give an introduction to Dudhwa National Park, and highlight the activities that are included in your itinerary and the optional tours.

    Enjoy your evening with refreshing beverages and freshly prepared delicacies for dinner.

    Day 2: Experience the morning safari to Dudhwa National Park. Afternoon go on a birding trail or cycle in the wilderness.

    Wake up early for an exciting day. Your naturalist will meet you as you set course on your first jungle safari in the Terai region. Dudhwa National Park lies amid the warm, tropical moist deciduous forests with an abundance of flora and fauna. Start your drive before dawn to catch the first rays of the sun as you enter the National Park.

    The thrill of a safari experience comes from the sheer unpredictability of the jungle. This is an adventure like never before! The dense sal forests, extensive grasslands and wetlands, are home to a variety of wildlife, but it's what you may encounter on your sojourn that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Although elusive, sightings of the Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, the swamp deer and fishing cat are not uncommon. Later continue as you pass numerous water bodies in the marshlands. Rich in riparian life, they are also critical breeding grounds for the critically endangered Indian otters.

    Stop for a much needed packed breakfast, while you enjoy a hot cup of masala chai with sandwiches and croissants. Continue as you meander through different zones of the forest.

    Conclude your safari as you take a moment to reflect on the highlights of the morning, before returning to the Lodge via the Sathiana range, the largest open grasslands of the region and famous for the Gharials, who bask by the river as they soak in the morning sun and the spotted deer amidst a variety of butterflies and birds.

    Return to the lodge to freshen up for a sumptuous lunch following which, you may choose either one of the following activities:

    Birding trail
    Whether you are a seasoned birder or just curious, areas in and around Dudhwa National Park are ideal for bird watching. Home to over 400 species of birds, both resident and migratory, the region is as popular for its birds as it is for its mammals. You may choose to walk or cycle with our resident naturalist, as you explore areas interspersed with water bodies, grasslands and fields as far as the naked eye can see.

    Scouring the landscape, you may chance upon species like the drongos, silver-bill munia, baya weaver, cattle egret, cinnamon bittern, kingfishers, falcons, kites, owls and pheasant-tailed jacana. The numerous wetlands provide prime habitat for many attractive birds like the pied kingfisher, bitterns, the purple swamp-hen and the Eurasian thick-knee.

    Cycling in the wilderness
    Embark on a bicycle tour through farmlands and tiny hamlets scattered around the periphery of Dudhwa National Park. Your accompanying naturalist will assist you in spotting a variety of birds in the area and give an introduction to the local culture, traditions and legends of the region. Just two kilometres away from the lodge is a small river, which is a perfect habitat for waders, kingfishers and other species of birds.

    This is also a great opportunity to meet friendly locals and see the homes of farmers, decorated with age-old motifs and designs of tribal art. Pass through perfect rural settings as you make your way through the narrow country roads and hear farmers singing while they till their fields.

    Day 3: Optional morning safari to Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary. Afternoon village safari to a tiny hamlet located on the periphery of Dudhwa National Park.

    This morning, proceed on an hour's drive, to the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary. An integral part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, it is an excellent habitat for the unique flora and fauna of the Terai region, with its many bodies of water. The sanctuary is dominated by sal, ficus and crocodile-bark trees, along with an array of multi-hued flowers and trees like the red silk cotton tree and the flame of the forest. A swampland fed by the Sharda River also features the elusive tiger and the endangered swamp deer, along with barking deer, wild boar and hog deer. Watch freshwater crocodiles bask in the sun and ducks swim on these lakes. After enjoying your game drive, return to Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa for lunch.

    Post lunch, you will drive for about forty five minutes to a quaint hamlet on the periphery of the Dudhwa National Park - belonging to the local tribes of the Terai region. For centuries the indigenous people have lived off the jungle and their traditions reflect their intimate relationship with the dense forests.

    Though their main occupation is farming, the colourful tribal community is renowned for their folk roots in music and dance, expert craftsmanship and their impeccable hunting skills. They excel at the art of catching and training wild elephants and make the best Mahouts. Meet your local host for the day, who has previously served as an apprentice to the grand old man of Terai, renowned Indian naturalist late Billy Arjan Singh. Spend the morning with your host as he takes you to his intricately designed traditional home, with a captivating introduction to the culture and customs of this prolific community.

    On your way back, visit a local school where the curriculum is focussed on nature and conservation. Interact with the enthusiastic young children and meet with the local teachers who are sensitizing the young generation on the impact modernization has on natural ecosystems. It is fascinating to see how passionate the young children are about nature, animals and plants alike.

    Day 4: Optional morning boat safari in Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. Afternoon is at leisure or you may opt for either a village safari or jeep safari.

    This morning, you may wish to choose an optional half day boat safari in Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. Located at a distance of 110 kilometres from the lodge, Katarniaghat is a little known paradise encompassing 400 square kilometres of grassland, swamps and wetlands. The Katarniaghat Forest provides a link between the tiger habitats of Dudhwa and Kishanpur in India and the Bardia National Park in Nepal. Enjoy a boat ride on the River Girwa, one of the best places in the world for sighting the gharial. Spot the critically endangered Gangetic dolphins, fresh water turtles, Indian elephant, spotted deer, Burmese python and the white-backed vultures amongst other species.

    Return to Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa for a sumptuous lunch. Post lunch, the rest of the afternoon is at leisure, or you may choose to go for either a village or jeep safari in the vicinity of the lodge.

    Day 5: Optional morning safari to either Dudhwa National Park or Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary. The afternoon is at leisure.

    This morning, you may choose an optional safari to either the Dudhwa National Park or Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary. Soak in the serenity of these pristine forests as they unravel their magic amidst the cacophony of jungle calls.

    Return to the lodge for lunch and the rest of the afternoon is at leisure so you may relax and unwind after a couple of days of intense safaris. Spend time at the Safari Club and enjoy a game of billiards or a game of chess. Alternatively, spend some time at the boutique shops for souvenirs to take home. Else just lounge by the pool to soak in some sun some much needed vitamin D with freshly prepared juices and light bites to keep you company.

    Day 6: Bid farewell to Jaagir Lodge, Dudhwa - Dudhwa: Fabled Forest tour.

    After a sumptuous breakfast, bid farewell to the 'Fabled Forest' tour as you proceed on your own for your onward journey.
