Things to carry

    Things to carry with you for the trip.

    Answer:
    • Woolens (the weather is liable to sudden change in the mountains. Please see temperature chart in Weather section) - Wind proof or light jacket
    • Good strapped sandals or flipflops will be handy for camp and the rafting trips and the monastery tours (as you'll need to keep removing your shoes)
    • Socks and shoes/trainers for hiking and biking trips.

Activities

  • Question:

    What fitness level should one have for the different activities in Ladakh?

    Answer:

    If you have heart and lung conditions or a walking disability, you should refrain from participating in strenuous activities and must get permission from your doctors to travel to Ladakh.

    Can the plan for the activities be cancelled/ terminated due to bad weather?

    Answer:

    The weather in Ladakh is very temperamental. All activities, excursions and extensions will be subject to weather conditions. The Activity or excursion specialist at the camp will monitor and advise on the same.

     
  • Question:

    Will torches be available at the camp ?

    Answer:

    Yes, each tent will be equipped with a torch.

     
  • Question:

    What should we wear for the hiking trips?

    Answer:

    A very light cotton t-shirt, and a light trousers are recommended. Shorts are appropriate too. Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support if opting for the day hike and comfortable walking shoes / trainers if going on a shorter walk around the village. You need to carry your day packs, water bottles, medication, and sun block. Also, a light water proof jacket and pants should be carried at all times as we are trekking in the mountains and therefore the weather can sometimes change drastically. A warm jacket is required in the month of September as the weather is much colder.

     
  • Question:

    What should we wear for the cycling trips?

    Answer:

    Quick-dry material or cotton shorts and t-shirts.. A material that is breathable, like lycra clothing, would be ideal. Trainers with socks are advisable. Please also carry your day packs with your water bottle, sun block (SP 70 plus), sunglasses (with strap), and any other personal items (such as your own personal medications). It is advisable to carry light water proof jacket and pants as the weather can sometimes change drastically. A warm jacket is required in the month of September as the weather is much colder

    What bikes will you provide us with for the cycling trips?

    Answer:

    Proper mountain bikes with gears will be provided for the cycling trips. Helmets are compulsory for everyone. We recommend you carry your own helmets, but if you wish, the same can be locally arranged.

    Answer:

    No, you are requested to make your own visa arrangements.

    Do I need inoculations before coming to India?

    Answer:

    No vaccinations are necessary to travel to India however, foreign tourists should be in possession of a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, conforming to international health regulations, if they are originating or travelling through Yellow Fever endemic countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the following vaccinations (as well as being up to date with measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations): Adult diphtheria and tetanus, hepatitis A, hepatites B, typhoid and varicella. It is advisable to check with your doctor before travelling.

    Can the camp be customized for special occasions such as weddings, family Celebrations, etc.?

    Answer:

    Yes, the camp can cater to any special occasion and customise the celebration to suit the guest requirement.

    Can you make special arrangements for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries etc.?

    Answer:

    Yes, we'd be delighted to help you plan your event.

    What travel documents do we need to bring to the camp?

    Answer:

    Valid Passport with a valid Indian visa, vouchers, travel insurance and valid domestic air tickets for foreigners.
    Indian travelers must have at least one of their Indian Government issued ID.

    Do we need to carry mosquito/insect repellent?

    Answer:

    Since these are skin sensitive we recommend you carry your own, however, insect repellents are provided at the camp.

    Answer:

    No, there are no mini bars.

    Can you provide a language speaking guide?

    Answer:

    Due to limited availability of language speaking guides, we will need sufficient notice to book the language guides at a supplement charge.

    Do you provide guides for excursions?

    Answer:

    Yes, guides are available with the excursions.

     
  • Question:

    What is the tipping policy away from the camp and how much should we tip our guides and drivers?

    Answer:

    Tipping for any service within the camp premises or outside the camp premises is totally at the discretion of the guests. Individual tipping is not encouraged at the campsite. There will be a tip box placed at the reception and guests can put their tip / gratuity in the box.

    Are tips / gratuities included in the package price for drivers, guides, valets, other staff at campsite.?

    Answer:

    No, tips /gratuities are not included in the package price. The same is at the discretion of the guests and can be placed in the tip box placed at the reception.

    Can we stay at the campsite if we wish to skip a sightseeing trip or activity?

    Answer:

    Yes, guests can relax at the campsite should they wish to skip an excursion or activity. However, it is important to be aware that there will be no refund for unutilised services.

    Can we book a separate car and guide for ourselves?

    Answer:

    The holiday package includes a car and guide. However, should guests require a car and guide for an excursion / activity not included in our standard itinerary, the same will be provided at a supplement charge.

    Answer:

    Answer:

    The cycling, camel safari and hiking activities are for kids 10 years and above.

    Answer:

    The standard mattress has a memory layered medium soft surface. Requests for firmer mattresses can also be taken care of.

    What size beds are there?

    Answer:

    The bed is 7 feet long. Accommodation is a double or Hollywood / twin bed style.

    Do we need to reserve a table before any meal?

    Answer:

    No. The dining room can accommodate all 21 in-house guests at the same time.

    Is the tap water safe to drink?

    Answer:

    No, we advise you to drink mineral water at all times.

    Do you consider special dietary requirements?

    Answer:

    Yes, special dietary requirements can be provided if the same is mentioned at the time of booking the package.

    Are the drinks complimentary at the camp?

    Answer:

    Only soft beverages are included in the plan.

    What type of cuisine will be served at the camp?

    Answer:

    Continental, Indian food and regional delicacies will be served at the camp.

     

The Campsite

    What is the seating capacity at the restaurant?

    Answer:

    The restaurant has the capacity to accommodate 21 in-house guests for each meal.

    Is smoking inside the rooms / common areas permitted?

    Answer:

    Smoking is not permitted in the tents as it would be a fire hazard. However, there will be a designated area on the campsite where smoking will be permitted.

    What kind of plug sockets are available?

    Answer:

    220v 3 pin sockets are provided.

     
  • Question:

    Do you provide wheelchairs if a passenger requires?

    Answer:

    No wheelchairs. We recommend that guests with limited mobility and other such constraints should be accompanied by an able bodied passenger. However, our butlers will be available to provide additional assistance. Kindly specify any special requirements at the time of booking.

    Do you have hot water facilities available in the bathrooms and will it run 24x7 or at set timings?

    Answer:

    Yes, hot water will be available round the clock.

    The maximum number of guests Chamba Camp, Diskit can accommodate at one time would be 22 guests

    Does the camp offer recreational areas?

    Answer:

    Yes, The Chamba Camp, Diskit is sprawled across 10 acres of prime lawn and spruced with Leh berry bushes, picturesque grazing ground for wild horses and surrounded by Poplar and willow trees ; a meandering stream running through our property. The Campsite is blessed with 360 degree view of spectacular mountain vistas. There are plenty of private spots in the campsite to soak in the serenity of this surreal oasis. The views on moonlit nights, of the whole campsite and its surrounding environ, is mesmerizing.

    What are the activities you provide at the camp and do you have indoor board games and a library?

    Answer:

    Yes, we do have a small library in the reception area. Activities available on site besides various board games are archery, croquet, nature walks,birding, village walks and cycling on the Diskit village trails.

    Will mobile phones work?

    Answer:

    Yes, only BSNL mobile network works in the Nubra Valley.

    Are spa facilities available at the camp?

    Answer:

    No, not at this time. Spa facilities will be introduced - at a later stage.

    Do you have WIFI available at the camp?

    Answer:

    Yes, WIFI is available.(subject to local connection).
    Incase , clients want , they can avail of our V-Sat services which can be made available, on chargeable basis .

    Do you have medical facilities at the camp and is there an in house doctor / nurse?

    Answer:

    First Aid facilities will be available at the camp. In case of medical emergencies, you will be assisted to the nearest medical facility from the list of hospitals available at the camp.

    Is room service available?

    Answer:

    Yes, room service is available.

    Do you have a laundry service?

    Answer:

    No laundry services.

    Are the facilities for foreign exchange available?

    Answer:

    No . the nearest foreign exchange would be in Leh.

    Do we have a personal butler at the campsite?

    Answer:

    Yes, we do accord personalized butler service to each tent.

     

The Stay

  • Question:

    What is the dress code at the camp and what will I need for the activities and excursions?

    Answer:

    The dress code will vary slightly based upon the location of the camp. For Ladakh, during the day, in June, August and September, guests will require full-sleeve cotton or denim shirts / blouses, carry a light jumper / fleece shawl for the evening and comfortable walking shoes. Layers work well.

    The month of July is usually warmer and half sleeves shirts and shorts can be worn during the day.

    Do you provide any kind of insurance facility for guests?

    Answer:

    Personal travel insurance - We strongly recommend that you have adequate travel insurance cover from your country of domicile for injury, illness, death, accident, adventure tours and activities, loss of effects or luggage and holiday cancellation. Kindly refer to the cancelation policy stated in our Booking Terms and Conditions.

    Insurance for the Chamba Camp, Thiksey- The Camp is comprehensively insured for fire, earthquake, theft and terrorism.

    Do your prices include flights?

    Answer:

    No, all domestic and international flights are excluded.

     
  • Question:

    Will the altitude in Ladakh be an issue? What are the best ways to acclimatize?

    Answer:

    Ladakh being at an altitude of 3,500 mtrs(11,500ft.) you will need time to acclimatize to the rarified atmosphere. In order to facilitate the acclimatization and prevent High Altitude Sickness (HAS), complete rest, with very little physical activity and also constant replenishing body with plenty of non-alcoholic liquid and no-smoking on Day 01 of your Ladakh itinerary, is highly recommended.
    We suggest you consult your physician on what medication and whether Ladakh as a destination would be suitable for you.
    It is imperative you are well rested and well acclimatize to atleast minimum 02 nights in Leh region before you contemplate venturing into the Nubra Valley. Do remember, you have to cross over the formidable Khardung La, claimant to be the world's highest motorable road at 5,570 mtrs( 18,380 ft) .

    What is the minimum number of nights one can stay at the camp?

    Answer:

    Our standard package is for one night and two nights.

    Where is the camp situated in Ladakh?

    Answer:

    The Chamba Camp, Diskit is located in Diskit the crossroads where the Himalayas merge into the Karakoram range of mountains. This oasis in this high altitude cold desert was an important junction for merchants, mercenaries and monks from the time of the Silk Route era.
    Chamba Camp, Diskit is located at an altitude of 3,144 mtrs (10,375 ft) .

    How many tents are available? What is the capacity of each tent? What category are the tents?

    Answer:

    We have 08 Luxury Suite Tents.
    Most of our Luxury Suite Tent can accommodate two guests (plus, one additional guest).

    What do the price / tariff include?

    Answer:
    1. Prices include arrival and departure transfers to and from Leh by AC Innova.
    2. Accommodation in Hollywood double or twin bedded luxury suite tents.
    3. All meals as mentioned in the itinerary, including tea, coffee and soft beverages.
    4. Guided excursions as specified in the tour program.
    5. Still camera fees (not professional) as applicable.

    What is not included in the price?

    Answer:
    1. Prices do not include international or domestic airfare.
    2. Any optional tour mentioned in the itinerary.
    3. Government service tax of 9% shall apply on the total billing for all bookings. Subject to change without prior notice.
    4. Taxes not mentioned in the package inclusions, insurance and gratuities on the campsite for housekeeping, Food and Beverage services.
    5. Gratuities to guides and drivers.
    6. Expenses of personal nature like telephone calls, laundry, alcoholic beverages, porterage at airports / and railway stations.
    7. Professional still and video camera fees.
    8. Pre or post tour accommodation and any other tour extensions.
